Briefly about Izmir Airport Turkey

Izmir Adnan Menderes International Airport is an airport serving Izmir and is named after the first democratically elected Turkish political leader and former prime minister Adnan Menderes. Izmir’s main airport is 18 kilometers south of the city on the way to Selçuk, Ephesus and Pamukkale. The easiest way to get there from Izmir is by the Havaş airport shuttle bus from the Turkish Airlines office. It served 5,236,304 passengers in the year 2007. 3,635,414 of them were domestic passengers and 1,600,890 of them were international passengers. It ranked 3rd in terms of total number of passengers, 5th in terms of international passengers and 2nd in terms of domestic passengers among Turkish airports in 2007. The new international terminal was opened in September 2006. Foreign exchange can be found in both Arrivals and Departures. There are plenty of shops at the airport, including several duty-free shops, fashion shops, a shop selling a variety of luxury items, grocery store, jewellery, a souvenir shop and a florist. There is also a restaurant, café, bar and several smaller kiosks selling beverages, aperitifs, snacks and sandwiches. Other facilities include public telephones, a post office, hairdresser, tourist information and hotel reservations. Facilities for those with special needs are good. Car Rental Company is also located at the Izmir airport. There are over 2,300 parking spaces at the multistory car park of the new terminal. Several trains stop at the airport terminal on their runs to and from Izmir’s Basmane railway station. Unfortunately, there are only about six southbound trains a day, mostly in the afternoon. Finding the city from the airport or vice versa is easy. From the city, head south on the E-87 and follow signs to the airport. From the airport, take the E-87 towards the north and follow signs to the city centre. The main road is called Akcay Road.
